As soon as we heard that Ben Haslam had purchased Valantino Oyster we were very keen to get involved and for us it was a case of us being in the right place at the right time at as we managed to beat a couple of potential buyers to him.

He’s by Pearl of Love [sire] and Mishor [dam] who was out of Slip Anchor so everything points to stamina in abundance. Formerly trained by Howard Johnson he’s raced 6 times to date, the first 3 were over 5f and 6f which were far too short so you can safely ignore, the second 3 were over 1m 2f, 1m2f and 1m4f in which he was 1st 4th and 1st. His last run was at Beverley and after being bumped 3f out he showed a great attitude to stay on strongly up the Beverley hill to lead near the finish and win by a neck.

Barry Keniry has schooled him over hurdles and told us he jumped really well and had a great feel about him. He told us he liked him a lot and said he wasn’t far behind some of the leading Juvenile Hurdlers he had already rode this season. This is high praise indeed when you consider Barry was aboard the Ben Haslam trained Dance for Julie when she won at Market Rasen and was described as one of the leading Juvenile hurdlers in the country.

His handicap mark on the Flat is 55 which is definitely a mark he can win off again and we can see him turning out to be a very useful Dual Purpose sort indeed. He’s the ideal horse for people who are fans of both codes of Racing and should provide his owners with some good days out all year round.
